The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Might Solve This

Each time a prominent honors show nears, there’s always a clamor to include additional classifications to honor underappreciated efforts and delight the hearts of enthusiasts who have specialized interests.

Another commentator has already made for a horror game category. That would rule. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, which is someone's personal cause. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand stands as crucial above others. This is the request: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Organizing artistic expressions defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and typically spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that cinema institutions don’t do it. But it is an unavoidable compromise within the realm of video games, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Existing Game Classification System

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature award types recognizing Action, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these award types effectively encompass many game types, and you can find room for most games within them.

Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Think about these this year’s best games, each quite distinct: structural challenges of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

Numerous examples exist outstanding logic titles launched regularly lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, except when they manage to fit for categories like Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated completely in 2014
  • Another creative title was excluded during that ceremony
  • A beloved organization game got ignored recently
  • Just some puzzle games barely qualified for independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

These are often modest productions, yet the craft of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Well-known matching games rank among most popular titles worldwide continuing this trend for many years.

The iconic tile-matching title competes with famous sandbox experiences for the title of best-selling game of all time; it also contends for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. You could fill a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude so many good games out.

Restating the point, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers operate at the demanding boundary game development, creating some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Just like movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay decades.
