Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then located many other marked cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials state initial examinations suggest the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; authorities are not yet cognizant of any harm in association with the occurrence," they added.
City officials announced they were working "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for information.
An important representative said the attack rendered him without words and needed to be solved quickly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, referring to the death of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
